October at Blue Moon Farms

As soon as the leaves begin to change (and let’s be honest, maybe even before that) I start decorating for Halloween! I want to be able to enjoy the entire month of October, which means by the first of the month the witches and spiders are up. The outdoor movie screen only shows scary movies- and Hocus Pocus, of course. It’s time to harvest the pumpkins from the garden, and switch from white to red wine.

“I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” Anne of Green Gables

Fall in all her glory at Blue Moon Farms! Our sugar maples are young, but on fire this year! We spent many evenings on the front porch enjoying the view.

This is our first year with an organic garden- and of course, we planted plenty of pumpkins, gourds, and squash too! Apparently our rusty ol’ scarecrow doesn’t scare off horses. We attempted to grow corn as well… but it was planted it too close to the fence so the horses ate more than we did!

One of the best views of the farm is from our pergola, located between the garden and horse pastures. Definitely a place to gather with grateful hearts.

Even on chilly nights, we would set up the projector for outdoor movie nights by the fire (also conveniently located next to the outdoor bar!)

Enter if you dare! If you do…come and sit a spell, the table is set, the candles are lit, and the apple cider doughnuts just came out of the oven!

We introduced two signature candles this season that invoke fall at Blue Moon Farms- Foggy Morning and Cozy Evening.

Yes! There were sourdough pumpkin pancakes, made in the cast iron Challenger Bread Pan for breakfast on Halloween!

Halloween night means a cozy bonfire for s’mores and popcorn, baggo and treats for kids, hay rides, pumpkin carving, and an outdoor bar for adults!

This was the fist year we did not host our annual BIG spooky bash! In fact, last year we started what we hoped would be a new tradition, a neighborhood chili cook off. However, the world had different plans so we celebrated this year with our “Quaranteam” of best friends and our kids. Trick-or-treating was allowed in our neighborhood, albeit at a table outside of the house. We had tons of costumed visitors, and gave out Moon Pies, an ode to the full blue moon on October 31st! In hindsight, it was a lovely evening and I am really starting to appreciate these smaller events- how about you?
