Glamping Adventure in Michigan, Part One
The Fields of Michigan has been on my “travel to” list since I read about them a year ago in Midwest Living Magazine. So… what better time for a road trip to South Haven, Michigan than my 50th birthday during a pandemic?! We bought out the entire resort for the weekend, and invited our family and best friends to join us for a last hurrah to summer 2020.
When you arrive at The Fields of Michigan, you park your car in a lot and they will transport you to camp in a utility vehicle. Or, you can walk like we did through their blueberry field, snacking along the way. With all of our luggage there wasn’t any room on the Gator for us anyway!
Now when I say “camp” what I really mean is “glamp” because each cozy tent has a luxurious king size bed, its own bathroom and a wood burning stove! We had each tent preassigned to expedite check-in, and with the help of The Fields staff, there were Comfy’s waiting for everyone in their tents!
We checked in on a Friday evening, and anticipated our guests arriving between 4PM and 6PM, with cocktail hour at 6:30! The owner Irene along with Mel, the Director of The Fields, thought of every little detail- they even made a boozy lemonade with blueberries and lavender from their farm.
After all the glampers had arrived, it was time for a wood fired pizza dinner! The Fields brought in a local chef with a pizza oven, and set up this amazing farm table beside the pond. We had perfect weather and the setting was absolutely picturesque for a casual al fresco sunset dinner.
The wood fired pizza oven was set up outside The Willows, their social hall and main gathering space at The Fields.
After dinner there were s’mores by the communal fire pit and some incredible stargazing! If you are there as a couple or just looking for privacy, each tent does have its own fire pit out front that the staff lights nightly.
